SUGGESTIONS

When is the best time to visit Alentejo?

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the best times to travel, thanks to the mild climate, fewer crowds, and a deeper connection with the natural and rural environment.

Avoid peak season (July and August) if you seek tranquillity and more exclusive experiences.

Be prepared for variable weather by bringing waterproof or windproof clothing, especially in mountainous areas such as Serra da Estrela.

What should you bring on your trip?

Dress lightly and comfortably, suitable for hot days and cool nights.

Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the various sites.

Don't forget sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

A light jacket or sweater is recommended for cooler evenings.

A small bag to carry essentials during your explorations will also be useful.

Health and safety:

Bring a small kit with basic medicines.

Ensure you have international health insurance, or check that your national policy covers travellers abroad.

Currency and payments:

The local currency is the Euro (€).

Carry an international credit card, but also keep some cash for small expenses, especially in rural areas and markets.

Sustainable tips:

Respect local communities and the environment: choose rural stays, small inns, and boutique hotels, and avoid products from endangered sources or unsustainable practices.

Support the local economy by buying handicrafts, regional products, and booking tours with local guides.

Engage authentically with history, culture, and traditions by joining cultural and gastronomic activities led by specialised local experts.
